In 2015,when the country needed to intensify comprehensive reform experiments in the field of cross-border e-commerce,Hangzhou was fortunate to receive this great opportunity and was approved to establish the first national comprehensive pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce.

In 2023,the former Hangzhou cross-border e-commerce pilot zone has grown into a thriving entity,with the“six systems and two platforms”originating from Hangzhou constantly innovating and being replicated and promoted nationwide.The achievements have become more substantial,with a large number of companies embarking on the path of digital transformation.The root system has become more developed,with a group of global cross-border e-commerce giants taking root in Hangzhou,and industrial parks covering the entire city,with vibrant vitality in finance,logistics,and talent elements.

In the past eight years,the total transaction volume of cross-border e-commerce in the Hangzhou Free Trade Zone has grown 1000 times.The number of cross-border e-commerce companies has increased from less than 2000 in 2014 to 55,381 in 2022.There are also 157 leading companies with an annual transaction volume of over 100 million yuan in cross-border e-commerce.

Hangzhou has developed into a hub for cross-border e-commerce services,attracting 2,237 cross-border e-commerce service providers and 335 overseas warehouses with a total area of 7.14 million square meters.There are 18 international cargo routes operating regularly,and cross-border payment transactions account for 70%of the national total.The city has also nurtured leading cross-border logistics companies such as Cainiao Network and“Three Links and One Delivery”,and has trained a total of 99,500 cross-border e-commerce professionals annually.Hangzhou’s local cross-border payment companies handle approximately 600 billion yuan in cross-border payment transactions each year,accounting for about 70%of the national total.

In Hangzhou,the new form of trade represented by cross-border e-commerce is thriving,connecting trade worldwide.The development of cross-border e-commerce platforms and independent channels is diversified,with two-thirds of the national cross-border e-commerce retail export platforms located in Hangzhou.Advanced technology is applied in cross-border e-commerce,facilitating trade connections between Europe,America,the emerging markets of the“Belt and Road”initiative,and 220 other countries and regions.

In Hangzhou,cross-border e-commerce brands have reached a global scale.There are 832 cross-border e-commerce brands with a scale of more than 20 million yuan and 4,371 registered trademarks for cross-border e-commerce companies.In 2022,Zibuyu Group went public on Double Eleven and became the first cross-border footwear and apparel company in China.There are 46 unicorn and potential unicorn companies in the cross-border e-commerce industry,and a group of new Chinese brands have global influence.

In the future,Hangzhou’s cross-border e-commerce comprehensive test zone will deepen its pioneering efforts,promote brand internationalization,and promote the integration of the“six chains”of cross-border e-commerce innovation,industry,talent,service,finance,and policy.It will continue to establish itself as the leading city in cross-border e-commerce in China and a top destination globally.
